A superlative grand touring car, the 1966 Lamborghini 400 GT is also a historic artefact of the evolution and growth of one of the world’s finest sports car manufacturers. Its development began in 1965 when Lamborghini sought to increase both the power and the interior room of its first production car, the 350 GT.

The two-seat 400 GT features a 320-brake horsepower 4.0-litre V-12, essentially the same 350 GT engine but with a longer stroke, backed by a fully synchromeshed five-speed transmission. The combination of the 350 GT’s sleek two-seat platform with the more powerful 4.0-litre engine made this an impressive, though unfortunately temporary, offering.
